Korean Language and culture Program Studies together with the student association (HIMAHARA) has successfully organized a film festival titled “Women Film Festival : The Voice from South Korea and Indonesia” on 2nd-3rd November 2024 in the Faculty of Cultural Science. This event was fully supported by the Korean Studies Grant 2024 of the Academic of Korean Studies. The organizing committee initiated this event because this is the first women film festival in Jogja and the first Korea-Indonesian Women Film Festival in Indonesia. There are many International Film Festivals in Indonesia but not specifically addressing women themed movies made by women filmmakers.

As the first project, the event’s programs were divided into two days. First day, there were two Korean movies (Kim Jiyoung 82 & Cart) and two Indonesian movies (Minggu Pagi di Victoria Park & Before Now and then) screened and each session had a star talk with Indonesian and Korean women film producers. The first star talk was a sharing session with Kim Doyoung who is the director of Kim Jiyoung 82 and this session was moderated and interpreted by Feby Elfrida (a lecturer of Korean language and culture). The afternoon session was a startalk with Lola Amaria, the director of Sunday Morning in Victoria Park, and it was moderated by Ratih Pratiwi Anwar (a researcher of PSSAT UGM)

The second day, it continued with a seminar and panel session conducted in English which discussed comparative commentary on how Korean and Indonesian films deal with women’s work. The seminar was moderated by Alfiana Amrin Rosyadi .There were four presenters from different backgrounds and focuses. First presenter was Emeritus Professor Kim Eunshil from Ewha Womans University who is also a former chairman of Seoul International Women Film Festival. The second speaker was Professor Kim Hyunggung from Seoul Women University and the third speaker was Dr Deshinta Dwi Asriani from Department of Sociology, FISIPOL UGM. The last presenter was Dr. Suray Agung Nugroho from FIB UGM. During the panel session, students asked about the hidden message or culture of Cart and the reception of the flower of hell movie. As a remark, Professor Kim Eunshil emphasized the importance of the Korean Indonesian Women Film Festival as a source of learning for students.

Alfiana and Deshinta as Project Manager and Co-project manager expected in the future Korean -Indonesian Film Festival can be continued next year and will be opened to the Indonesian women movie makers to screen their movies in the festival.
