On March 9, 2024, the highlight of the 18th annual Korean Day event series was organized by UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The performers combined Korean and Indonesian culture through the costumes they wore and added touches of Indonesian culture to their performances, such as performing both Korean and Indonesian songs.

This year, Korean Day took the theme “Hallyunesia Wonderland” to celebrate Indonesian and Korean culture. The event was also enlivened by performances of various dongari (clubs) of the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program, namely Samulnori, Hansamchum, Katharsis Sing, Katharsis Dance, Talchum, and Buchaechum. This year’s Korean Day event venue provided food, drink and accessory tenants. Random Play Dance session and the perfomance of guest star, Nadafid, were the highlight of the event. Then, there was also a Noraebang (Korean karaoke) session which was also the conclusion of the Korean Day 18th event. read more

Yogyakarta, March 8, 2024 – A public lecture on Korean culture was held successfully at the Auditorium of the Soegondo building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University. This public lecture was held because of cooperation among UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program, Korean Cultural Center Indonesia (KCCI), Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Indonesia, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. The series of events opened at 13.00 Western Indonesian time with the inauguration of the ‘Korean Culture Njogo’ team by the director of the Korean Cultural Center Indonesia (KCCI), Mr. Kim Yong Woon. read more

Yogyakarta, 23 February 2024 – The Korean Language and Culture study program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM, has held a public lecture for the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 course. The Comprehensive Korean Language 2 course includes learning about Korean in the business world. This course conducted as a result of the cooperation of the Korean Language and Culture Program and the Korea Foundation with lecturers from South Korea. The Comprehensive Korean Language Public Lecture 2 was held online via the Zoom platform at 13.30 western Indonesian time. In the 2022/2023 academic year, the UGM Korean Language and Culture Program sent 7 students to South Korea to participate in the exchange student program. The university that the students are aiming for this time is Kyungpook National University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, and Soonchunhyang University.

In the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, UGM’s Korean Language and Culture Study Program sent 4 students to take part in an exchange student program abroad. The country where students are sent is not only Korea, but America is also one of the destination countries to learn on this semester’s exchange opportunity. On January 12, 2024, Cheil Jedang Indonesia Inc, Jombang Plant visited the UGM Faculty of Cultural Sciences to provide work opportunities to alumni of the Korean Language and Culture Study Program by carrying out a direct recruitment process. This activity began with a presentation from the company regarding the company’s history and branches. Then the presentation continued with the introduction of a company branch located in Jombang, East Java more specifically. The activity continued with the first recruitment procedure, a psychological test by the recruitment team.
After the psychological test was completed, it continued and ended with a direct interview by HR team of Cheil Jedang Indonesia Inc., Jombang Plant. This direct recruitment process by Cheil Jedang Indonesia Inc., is certainly a good opportunity for alumni and students of the Korean Language and Culture Study Program to get the opportunity to work in the field that matches the knowledge gained during their studies. 17th of  November 2023 – Korean Language and Culture Program Studies of UGM organized an awarding ceremony of Korindo Scholarship. The lecturers and the freshmen studens attended the event. The event was started by a traditional Korean Fan Dance or well known as Buchaechum and continued to the opening  speech of Faculty of Cultural Science’s dean, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si and the speech of Korindo’s representative,Mr. Seo Jeong Sik as a general secretary of Korindo.

On 11th of November 2023, the Korean Language and Culture study program Gadjah Mada University  held a series of annual events Korean Day entitled “Beat The Quests: Road to Korean Day UGM” and brought a theme called “Hallyunesia Wonderland”.

This one-day event presented a mix of cultures Indonesian and Korean culture that have been displayed through various participant performances Sing Cover Competition and Dance Cover Competition. 2nd of November, 2023 – Korea language and culture of  UGM organized a public lecture which was titled “The errors of Korean- Indonesian and Indonesia-Korea’s Translations Works”. For this public lecture, our program studies invited a professional and experienced worker in translation work of Korea-Indonesia-Korea, Miss. Min Seon Hee, M.A. Her work background was a interpreter and translator of Korean Embassy in Jakarta and has been pointed as an interpreter during the visit of Korean Minister to meet President Jokowi and the meeting of lady first of Korean and Indonesia. On 21st of October 2023, Korean Language and Culture Student Association (HIMAHARA) carried out a collaboration work with the King Sejong Institute Yogyakarta (KSIY) on Saturday (21/10) in the Soegondo building of FIB, room 627. This event was held with the aim of introducing life in South Korea through photos taken by sources while living in South Korea. This activity began with a talk show by guest speaker Kim Seulgi, a content creator from Korea who currently lives in Yogyakarta who is also a native teacher of KSIY. Then, it was continued by a talk show by Iva Hanani, a lecturer at UGM Korean Language and Culture study program who has lived in Korea for three years during her master’s studies. read more
