Yogyakarta, September 6, 2024 – The Korean Language and Culture Program, in collaboration with Kagama Korea, once again awarded scholarships to several selected students. The scholarships were presented on September 6, 2024, in Room 707, Soegondo Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM. The scholarship was granted to ten students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts of the Korean Language and Culture Program. The event was attended by all the scholarship recipients and was enlivened by performances from students of the 2024 cohort. The Kagama Korea scholarship presentation was represented by Prof. Yang Seung-yoon, the Chairman of the Special Branch of Kagama Korea, South Korea.

Saturday and Sunday, September 14–15, 2024 – The Korean Language Student Association at UGM organized the Fellowship Training event under the theme “빛나는 꿈,” meaning “Shining Dreams.” The event took place over two days in Lecture Room 707 at Soegondo Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, and at the Greenland Margono grounds. It was attended by students from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts of the Korean Language and Culture Program.
On the first day, the Fellowship Training 2024 began with a talk show session featuring speakers from the 2022 cohort. In this session, the seniors shared insights about student exchange opportunities to South Korea and provided tips and tricks for taking the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean). Additionally, new students gained a deeper understanding of the Korean Language and Culture Program at UGM. The event continued with entertaining performances by first-year students from the 2024 cohort, adding excitement to the day.
Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – The script writing competition was one of the events in the KPBB FEST UAJY 2024, themed “Modernization of Culture and Culture in Modernization.” The competition, titled “Culture in Writing,” aimed to explore how far we can preserve cultural heritage and familiarize ourselves with various writing systems around the world. The competition categories included Javanese, Korean, and Japanese scripts.
The competition took place at the Bonaventura Building, Campus III, Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta. The event started at 8:00 AM, with the writing session lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes, beginning at 9:00 AM. The winners were announced at 11:30 AM.
Two alumni of the Korean Language and Culture Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), have successfully received the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) 2024 to pursue their Master’s degrees in South Korea. The two alumni, Maria Tricia (Cia) and Syadza Nadhira Khalizhaffana (Nana) from the 2019 cohort, are continuing their studies at Kyungpook National University and Jeonbuk National University, respectively. Although studying at different universities, both have chosen the same major: Korean Language and Literature.
September 26, 2024 – The Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully held the Scholarship Distribution Ceremony for the 2024/2025 period in collaboration with the Korindo Foundation.
The event commenced with a welcome by the MC, who introduced representatives from the Korindo Foundation and the leadership of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at UGM. Following the opening, the event featured a Hansamchum dance performance and a speech from the Dean of FIB UGM, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, M.Si. The Secretary-General of the Korindo Foundation, Mr. Lee Sung Hoon, also delivered a speech.
UGM Korean Language and Culture Program Studies conducted field lectures for the first time with the aim of Korean companies in Indonesia. This activity was carried out in order to end the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 (Business Korean) lecture in the even semester 2023/2024.
This activity was carried out over two days, 25-26 June 2024 (Tuesday-Wednesday). In this field study, those participating were 31 students and 1 accompanying lecturer who conducted the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 (Business Korean) course, Mrs. Alfiana Amrin Rosyadi, S.S., M.A. This activity has several destination companies, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc., Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Indonesia, and Bank Shinhan Indonesia. The activity began on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. All participants and the lecturer gathered at Bekasi Cikarang Station to go to the first destination, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. This field study was carried out using a bus and took approximately one hour because the destination was in an industrial area which was quite far from central city. The agenda at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc started with an Alumni Talk event which included a company introduction and sharing session by company employees and several alumni of the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program who work for there. After that, participants took photos together with company representatives and gave souvenirs to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. The activity continued with a factory tour hosted by a guide. During the factory tour, participants in this activity had the opportunity to see firsthand the car manufacturing and assembly process produced by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. The activity ended with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc giving souvenirs to the participants of this activity.
