Himpunan Mahasiswa Bahasa Korea (HIMAHARA)

The Korean Language Student Association (HIMAHARA) of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada is a student organization under the auspices of the Student Executive Board (LEM) of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. HIMAHARA was officially established on April 2, 2004, which also marked the inauguration of its first board members by Drs. Mudjeri, who at that time served as the Vice Dean III. At the time, there were only 18 Korean Language students, who were the first cohort of the Korean Language Program in the Faculty since August 2003. Despite having limited organizational experience and lacking a permanent office, HIMAHARA was able to adapt and grow. The organization was founded as a platform for students of the Korean Language Department to be creative and develop their personal potential.

Under HIMAHARA, there are several Student Activity Units (UKM), including traditional Korean dance groups such as Buchaechum, Hansamchum, as well as modern dance. In the field of music, HIMAHARA supports two genres: traditional and modern. Traditional music is represented by the Samulnori music group, while modern music is performed by the HIMAHARA band. These groups practice weekly to continually enhance students’ skills and creativity.
