We would like to take this time to announce the Fall 2022 Global Korea Scholarship (hereafter GKS) program for the incoming students for fall 2022 at KNU.
This scholarship is operated by the Korean governmental funding from the National Institute of International Education (NIIED) in Korea. It aims to support international incoming students to study in Korea financially and make a connection between Korea for future works. We have two scholarship groups (hereafter Group A and Group B) with different screening criteria.
Please refer to each group’s conditions well and nominate one of your students to the right group among the mobility nominees. The students coming to KNU only for the fall 2022 semester (one semester) are applicable for this program.
Scholarship Benefits (for both Group A and Group B)
For the winner, the scholarship supports the following benefits:
- Settlement allowance: KRW 200,000 (for once in the first month)
- Monthly allowance: KRW 500,000 for 4 months (for a semester visiting)
- Round-trip airfare: TBA, set amount for each country (the airfare only covers the trip between the home country and Korea, and the stop-over for personal purposes is not covered by the scholarship. Also, it only covers if students return to their home country directly from Korea within 30 days from the official ending date of the academic semester.)
- Medical insurance (Korean National Health Insurance Service): KRW 56,030 per month during the scholarship period (4 months)
Application Qualifications
Applicants must meet all conditions below to be nominated for the GKS program:
- (Group A) Students have to be undergraduate students of foreign nationalities from KNU’s partner universities. The students must not be studying in Korea at current (extending for the students who completed their GKS program already is not allowed, too).
- (Group B) Students in both the undergraduate level and the Master’s level from KNU’s partner universities, with specific nationalities as follow: the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Russia, the United States of America, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Chile, Canada, Poland, France, Finland, and Australia.
- (Both Group A and B) Students whose GPA is over 80 out of 100-scale.
- (Both Group A and B) Students who must have completed at least two semesters in their home university.
- (Both Group A and B) Students participating in the KNU regular exchange student program (students who only take the Korean language courses at KNU cannot apply for the GKS program).
- (Both Group A and B) Students who have never received a scholarship from the Korean government in the past.
- (Both Group A and B) Students who do not have dual citizenship including Korean nationality.
- (Both Group A and B) Students who will take at least one (1) course (two or more credits for each course) related to the Korean language or Korean culture during the semester.
Application Deadline
The nominees should submit the following series of documents to through email studikoreafib@ugm.ac.id (cc: suray@ugm.ac.id) by May 17th, 2022.
(Any materials received after time will not be considered.)
- Application (required, using the attached form)
- Certificate of enrollment at home university (required)
- Passport copy (required, or the birth certificate if the passport is not available)
- Official transcripts (required, including all semesters at home university): including every semester for the enrolled period in the home university, should be converted to a 100-point-scale. If the transcripts cannot be shown on a 100-point-scale, the confirmation with an explanation should be attached together by the university coordinator. (NIIED DO NOT accept any Official transcript with ECTS scales.)
- Language proficiency test (optional): TOPIK or English test results such as TEOFL, IELTS, etc. The results must be valid and issued after December 2021.
- Study plan (required, using the attached form): Stating the reason and the motivation to decide to participate in the exchange program in Korea, and the goal of the study in Korean universities academically and personally, and the current studying field information must be included. (Within 3 pages using the given form in A4 size, and the size of the font of 11pt, single-line spaced.)
- Personal statement (required, using the attached form): Must include the volunteer experience and the future direction plan after studying in Korea and returning to the home countries. It should be written in Korean or English by the student oneself. It must be submitted separately with the Study Plan, written within 3 pages and with the signature of the student. (Using the given form in A4 size, and the size of the font of 11pt, single-line spaced.) The evidence materials for the Personal Statement can be attached separately with the number of pages.
- Letter of recommendation (required): The Letter of Recommendation by the home university for the GKS program must be submitted in a PDF file. The general letter of recommendation for the exchange program nomination is not accepted. Without the Letter of Recommendation, the application can be disadvantaged in screening.
- Records of awards (optional): The copy of the awards or rewards can be submitted. The awards (or rewards) should be awarded during the current academic level enrolled period. The normal record or the proof of application will not be accepted.
※[Important Note] The name of Kyungpook National University (or KNU) and its information must not be indicated in the study plan, the personal statement, the letter of recommendation, and the awards due to the blind screening rules for its fair screening.
