Korean Major Talk Show (KOMETS) is an annual event held by the Student Association of Korean Language and Culture Program Studi (HIMAHARA). This event is part of the HIMAHARA UGM external division work program. This event takes the form of a Talk Show and presentation regarding information about the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program by Korean Language and Culture Studi Program students or alumni. This event was held online via the zoom meeting platform and was open to the public. The theme of this year’s Komets Shows is ‘Path for Wanderers’ which means depicting the journey of prospective freshmen in the Korean Language and Culture Study Program who need a path to reach their goals. This event aims to help prospective students of the Korean Language and Culture study program to learn more about the UGM Korean Language and Culture study program. This year, the KOMETS will be held for one day, namely on March 16, 2024.
The speakers for this year’s KOMETS are UGM Korean Language and Culture students, Ida Ayu Nastiti (Korindo Foundation Scholarship Awardee 2022 and Soonchunhyang University Exchange Awardee 2023), Mahetala Bhawika Neo Wandhana (IISMA Awardee 2023 at Arizona State University), and Fathiannisa Dyah Kartikaningrum (Oesolhoe Foundation Scholarship Awardee 2023). In addition, in KOMETS 2024, Korean Guest Start, Lee Hyo Bin (Indonesian Literature Major at BUFS, Student Exchange at Gadjah Mada University in 2022 and Ahmad Dahlan University in 2022) participated.

Yogyakarta, March 18, 2024 – Kagama Korea, through the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, provides scholarships to several selected students. The scholarships were awarded to five student’s class of 2023. This time, the submission of Kagama Korea scholarship was presented by Mr. Suray Agung Nugroho, S.S., M.A., Ph.D.
After the handover of the scholarship, the series of events continued with the submission of Korean history books to students of the 2023 Korean Language and Culture Study Program. This Korean history book was written by Prof. Yang Seung-yoon as Chairman of the Special Branch of Kagama South Korea. We hope that this activity can become a medium for continued cooperation between the Korean Language and Culture Study Program UGM and Kagama Korea. In addition, we really hope that this event will motivate Korean Language and Culture Study Program students to continue to develop themselves. (FDK)
Jakarta, 8 June, 2024 – The UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program sent five of its students to participate in the final round of the 22nd K-Speech Oratory Contest Indonesia hosted by the Indonesia Korea Speech Eloquence Association which took place at the National University (UNAS). The five students are Ida Ayu Nastiti, Anggita Lintang Herdiwan, Nasywa Athallah Putri, Firmansyah Haryo Yudhoyono, and Naufal Java Fakhriansyah. The event began with a Dongari’s performance from UNAS students and was followed by Big Group Oration Speeches from each university, including UGM which successfully submitted the Big Group Oration Speeches via video. The event continued with the introduction of the jury and a welcoming speech from the person in charge of this event. After completing the series of events, as many as 27 individual category participants also performed in the order determined by the committee, then a team competition involving 7 teams was also held. While waiting for the results of the jury’s assessment, the event was filled with a door prize distribution session and evaluation of the overall performance of the participants. Then, prizes were handed over and a group photo session was held to close the event.
UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program students won several winners in this competition. These students are Anggita Lintang Herdiwan who won first place in the individual category, and Nasywa Athallah Putri, Firmansyah Haryo Yudhoyono, and Naufal Java Fakhriansyah won third place in the team category. The five students of the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program who qualified for the final round to convey their impressions about this competition. Following are the impressions they convey.

Yogyakarta, October 9, 2024 – A proud achievement was made by a team of students from the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), who won first place in a Korean-language video contest organized by Yeungnam University. The competition featured participants from various countries, showcasing creative works that educated and promoted their respective cultures.
The UGM team, consisting of three students—Alifa Az Zahra, Indicha Yusha Meynandha, and Athaya Calista Aileen Nasywa—presented an engaging video that introduced viewers to the iconic Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta. Using fluent Korean, they explained the history of the temple, the mythology surrounding it, and its captivating architectural beauty. The team also interviewed two Korean tourists visiting the temple, asking for their opinions about Prambanan Temple.
UGM Korean Language and Culture Program Studies conducted field lectures for the first time with the aim of Korean companies in Indonesia. This activity was carried out in order to end the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 (Business Korean) lecture in the even semester 2023/2024.
This activity was carried out over two days, 25-26 June 2024 (Tuesday-Wednesday). In this field study, those participating were 31 students and 1 accompanying lecturer who conducted the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 (Business Korean) course, Mrs. Alfiana Amrin Rosyadi, S.S., M.A. This activity has several destination companies, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc., Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Indonesia, and Bank Shinhan Indonesia. The activity began on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. All participants and the lecturer gathered at Bekasi Cikarang Station to go to the first destination, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. This field study was carried out using a bus and took approximately one hour because the destination was in an industrial area which was quite far from central city. The agenda at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc started with an Alumni Talk event which included a company introduction and sharing session by company employees and several alumni of the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program who work for there. After that, participants took photos together with company representatives and gave souvenirs to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. The activity continued with a factory tour hosted by a guide. During the factory tour, participants in this activity had the opportunity to see firsthand the car manufacturing and assembly process produced by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. The activity ended with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc giving souvenirs to the participants of this activity.
