Yogyakarta, August 24, 2025 — On Sunday, August 24, 2025, the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held the Pra-Fellowship Training 2025. The event took place at Room 707, Soegondo Building, FIB UGM, and the FIB UGM Literature Canteen from 1:00 to 5:20 PM WIB. This activity was supported by PT TKG Taekwang Indonesia and attended by the new students of the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at UGM.

The series of activities began with the new students gathering in Room 707, Soegondo Building, FIB UGM, according to the groups previously assigned. They were then guided by the Pra-Fellowship Training 2025 committee to create maedeup, a traditional Korean decorative knot. Maedeup is an intricate Korean art form that uses threads or cords to create beautiful and complex knots, often in the shape of flowers or butterflies. This craft is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of Korea and is commonly used to decorate daily items, including Hanbok accessories (norigae), home decorations, and royal artifacts.

Next, participants moved to the FIB UGM Literature Canteen for a Korean cooking workshop led by Dr. Hwang Who Young, M.A. The dish prepared was Kimbab, a traditional Korean food consisting of rice and various fillings such as vegetables, meat, or eggs, rolled in dried seaweed (gim) and sliced into bite-sized pieces. Kimbab is a popular picnic food in Korea, typically served cold with yellow pickled radish (danmuji) and kimchi.

As the closing event, prizes were awarded to participants in several categories: Fastest Group, Perfect Group, and Most United Group. The Fastest Group award went to Group Akinda, the Perfect Group award went to Group Mansae, and the Most United Group award went to Group Sonogong.

One of the new students, Amelia Dwi Saputri from Group Mansae, shared her excitement, “The event was super fun! I’m so happy to learn so many new things about Korean culture. All the seniors from Himahara were also really kind and lively… Thank you so much to all the Himahara seniors for your hard work!!”

The event leader of Pra-Fellowship Training 2025, Mila Najatul Maula, expressed her hopes that this event would introduce Korean culture to the new students, help them get to know each other, and provide a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Through this event, the new students are expected to gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture, build stronger connections with their peers, and establish a good relationship with their seniors.
