Malaysia, 4 May 2026 until 5 May 2026 — Alfiana Amrin Rosyadi, S.S., M.A., a lecturer from the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, participated as a presenter at the International Conference on Action Research 2026 held in Penang, Malaysia.
At the conference, Alfiana presented a paper entitled “Utilizing the Speaking Card ‘MAREBA’ in Korean Speaking: A Study at Universitas Gadjah Mada.” The study was based on classroom action research conducted in the Listening and Speaking II course offered by the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
The research explored the use of the “MAREBA” speaking card as an instructional medium designed to enhance students’ Korean-speaking skills through more interactive and communicative learning activities. The findings demonstrated that innovative instructional media can foster a more active learning environment while increasing students’ confidence in using the Korean language.
The presentation was delivered in English, as most conference participants came from diverse academic disciplines and were neither Korean language instructors nor learners. Through this international academic forum, the research conducted by the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada was introduced to a broader scholarly community, creating opportunities for the exchange of ideas on innovative teaching practices and the development of classroom action research-based instructional methods.
Participation in this conference reflects the commitment of the lecturers of the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada to advancing the quality of education through research while expanding international academic networks to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of language education.
