On May 5, 2023, the preliminary round of the 2023 Korean Language Debate Competition for D3 / S1 students throughout Indonesia by KCCI was held.

UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program sent 1 team consisting of 2 students from the class of 2020. The students are Vanesa Olivia and Raihana Alfiyya R. A. who named their team Igong Dugong (이공두공).
In this preliminary round, they faced a team from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Team Byeolttungbyeol (별똥별). The debate in this round was held online through the Zoom platform with the debate topic “한국어 학습 시만을 사용하는 것이 학습 과정을”. 극대화하는데 더 효과적이다” or in Indonesian, “Does the full use of Korean in the learning process maximize the effectiveness of learning? “. read more

Komets 101 is an annual event held by the External Affairs Department of HIMAHARA, which aims to introduce the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program or Study Program Review to the wider community, especially for students who want to continue their studies. In the previous year, the name given was Kometshow, but this year the committee wanted to make a new theme.

Themed “Produce 101”, we want to include Korean elements that are very characteristic of the South Korean entertainment world, namely survival shows, besides that we give the meaning of 101 is the introductory part because we hope this event can be an introductory part for students who want to know more about the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program. In addition, we also give a nickname to the participants, Rookies, of course because it includes elements of the characteristics of this idol country, but besides that, we interpret Rookies as people who are preparing to enter the world of college. read more

March 18, 2023 ㅡ Korean Language and Culture Student Association (HIMAHARA) held the first work program of its cabinet, ARIYA cabinet, in cooperation with Sejong Haktang on Saturday (18/3) at Margono Building Room 303, Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The event was held with the aim of introducing Korean mask dance culture (탈춤) to the general public.

The first activity began with a presentation of materials on Korean masks by Ms. Alfiana, a lecturer in the Korean Language and Culture program, starting with a brief history, types and characteristics of masks, and ending with an explanation of Korean mask dance (탈춤). read more

On March 8, 2023, Korean Culture Center Indonesia announced the holding of Online Sing Cover Contest 2023. UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program sent one of its students to participate in the contest, namely Mustafiah Luthfiani Wibowo from the class of 2019. Mustafiah has previously been active in the choir of PARAMADAYA FIB UGM as well as in group singing with Katarsis (one of the extracurricular students of UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program). Not only that, at the Korean Days 2022 event, Mustafiah also enlivened the event by performing as one of the band singers. She is known to have a beautiful voice and loves to sing. She also often uploads singing cover videos with her friends on her Instagram social media page. read more

Cultural exchange activities between the Korean Language and Culture Study Program (BKK) and Kyungpook National University (KNU) are annual routine activities, which started in 2015. Usually, these activities are conducted offline during the holidays before UGM starts teaching and learning activities in the spring semester. However, since the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, this activity has started to be conducted online. For this year, the cultural exchange activities will also be held online from January 09-20, 2023. The participants of the activity consisted of the BKK team and the KNU team, where the KNU team consisted of 18 students from various departments, 1 university staff member and 1 supervisor. November 25, 2022 – Korean Language and Culture Study Program collaborated with Sejong Haktang to hold a joint public lecture. This public lecture was held in 2 sessions at 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. with different materials and speakers.

The first session was a calligraphy class conducted by Mr. Kim Min Ho. This class was attended by about 100 students from different batches, including the class of 2018. Mr. Kim Min Ho started his material by teaching how to write Hangeul calligraphy. He then continued by distributing learning materials such as postcards, flashcards, markers, and practice paper. The students were asked to practice writing calligraphy directly on the learning media. read more

November 22, 2022 – UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program and Korindo Foundation held the Korindo Foundation Scholarship Awarding Event for Higher Education for the period 2022/2023.

This event was held through the Zoom platform. The event was opened by Mr. Seo Jeongsuk as the Secretary General of Korindo Foundation and Mr. Setiadi as the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM at 14:00 WIB.

On Saturday (03/26/2022), the UGM Korean Language and Culture Student Association (Himahara) successfully held one of its work programs entitled “Kometshow 2022: Korean Major Talk Show”. This activity aims to introduce the UGM Korean Language and Culture program to the general public, especially prospective new students. The event was held online through the Zoom video conferencing platform and was very lively and enthusiastically received by the participants.

The event was opened with remarks by the Himahara Year 2022 Chairperson, Vanesa Olivia (2020), and continued with remarks by the study program director, Mr. Suray Agung Nugroho, M.A., Ph.D. After all remarks were made, the event continued with a presentation by the first speaker, Hasna Ega A. (2018), as the administrator of the BKK UGM study program in 2022. Hasna provided material about the courses offered in this program, coupled with information about the exchange student program opportunities that can be taken up by students of the BKK UGM program. read more

In the 2021/2022 academic year, UGM’s Korean Language and Culture Program sent five of its students to participate in an exchange student program abroad. Not only Korea but also Italy was among the destinations for this semester’s exchange students. The universities that hosted the students this time were the University of Padua, Korea University, Kyungpook National University, Jeonbuk National University, and Busan University of Foreign Studies.
