UGM Korean Language and Culture Program Studies conducted field lectures for the first time with the aim of Korean companies in Indonesia. This activity was carried out in order to end the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 (Business Korean) lecture in the even semester 2023/2024.
This activity was carried out over two days, 25-26 June 2024 (Tuesday-Wednesday). In this field study, those participating were 31 students and 1 accompanying lecturer who conducted the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 (Business Korean) course, Mrs. Alfiana Amrin Rosyadi, S.S., M.A. This activity has several destination companies, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc., Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Indonesia, and Bank Shinhan Indonesia. The activity began on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. All participants and the lecturer gathered at Bekasi Cikarang Station to go to the first destination, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. This field study was carried out using a bus and took approximately one hour because the destination was in an industrial area which was quite far from central city. The agenda at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc started with an Alumni Talk event which included a company introduction and sharing session by company employees and several alumni of the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program who work for there. After that, participants took photos together with company representatives and gave souvenirs to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. The activity continued with a factory tour hosted by a guide. During the factory tour, participants in this activity had the opportunity to see firsthand the car manufacturing and assembly process produced by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc. The activity ended with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia Inc giving souvenirs to the participants of this activity.

Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – The script writing competition was one of the events in the KPBB FEST UAJY 2024, themed “Modernization of Culture and Culture in Modernization.” The competition, titled “Culture in Writing,” aimed to explore how far we can preserve cultural heritage and familiarize ourselves with various writing systems around the world. The competition categories included Javanese, Korean, and Japanese scripts.
The competition took place at the Bonaventura Building, Campus III, Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta. The event started at 8:00 AM, with the writing session lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes, beginning at 9:00 AM. The winners were announced at 11:30 AM.
After receiving an A accreditation, the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has successfully obtained the ‘Excellent’ accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). This accreditation is valid from May 21, 2024, to August 16, 2028, as stated in the official decree of the Executive Board Director of BAN-PT No. 4269/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.KP/S/V/2024.
To achieve the ‘Excellent’ status, the study program underwent various evaluations conducted by BAN-PT. These evaluations were carried out by the Korean Language and Culture Study Program Team in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit Team of FIB UGM. Additionally, the program’s success was supported by the contributions of all parties, including alumni and key stakeholders.
Yogyakarta, May 17, 2024 – The Korean Language and Culture Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, once again held an offline class in collaboration with the Korea Foundation. Every semester, the Korean Language and Culture Program regularly organizes classes in partnership with the Korea Foundation. This semester, the course held offline was Korean Business.
After running for half a semester, Prof. Kim Su-Eun, the course instructor from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, visited the Korean Language and Culture Program at UGM to conduct an in-person lecture. The lecture lasted for two hours, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM WIB, in Room 114, Soegondo Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Handover of Shinhan Bank Indonesia Scholarship to outstanding students of the Korean Language and Culture Study Program Faculty of Humanities UGM was held. This scholarship grant ceremony was attended by all lecturers and students of the class of 2023 of the Korean Language and Culture Study Program. The opening of the event began with a Buchaechum performance, and continued with an opening speech by Suray Agung Nugroho, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. and Head of Bank Shinhan Yogyakarta Branch, namely Mr Mirza Himawan. Then, the event continued with calling the names of students from the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, who received scholarships. Ewha Womans University visited the UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program UGM again to strengthen cooperation with the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, Faculty of Humanities UGM. This event took place on Monday, April 29, 2024, in the multimedia room in the Margono Building, Faculty of Humanities UGM.
This event began with a presentation by Ewha Womans University regarding opportunities to continue studying the master’s program there. The presentation starts from the study programs offered to the scholarships that can be obtained to support tuition fees. After 30 minutes, Ewha Womans University gave a quiz to the participants. Participants who can answer the quiz questions are given special merchandise prizes typical of Ewha Womans University, which is cat-shaped key chain.
Yogyakarta, March 18, 2024 – Kagama Korea, through the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, provides scholarships to several selected students. The scholarships were awarded to five student’s class of 2023. This time, the submission of Kagama Korea scholarship was presented by Mr. Suray Agung Nugroho, S.S., M.A., Ph.D.
After the handover of the scholarship, the series of events continued with the submission of Korean history books to students of the 2023 Korean Language and Culture Study Program. This Korean history book was written by Prof. Yang Seung-yoon as Chairman of the Special Branch of Kagama South Korea. We hope that this activity can become a medium for continued cooperation between the Korean Language and Culture Study Program UGM and Kagama Korea. In addition, we really hope that this event will motivate Korean Language and Culture Study Program students to continue to develop themselves. (FDK)
Yogyakarta, March 8, 2024 – A public lecture on Korean culture was held successfully at the Auditorium of the Soegondo building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University. This public lecture was held because of cooperation among UGM Korean Language and Culture Study Program, Korean Cultural Center Indonesia (KCCI), Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Indonesia, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. The series of events opened at 13.00 Western Indonesian time with the inauguration of the ‘Korean Culture Njogo’ team by the director of the Korean Cultural Center Indonesia (KCCI), Mr. Kim Yong Woon.
Yogyakarta, 23 February 2024 – The Korean Language and Culture study program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM, has held a public lecture for the Comprehensive Korean Language 2 course. The Comprehensive Korean Language 2 course includes learning about Korean in the business world. This course conducted as a result of the cooperation of the Korean Language and Culture Program and the Korea Foundation with lecturers from South Korea. The Comprehensive Korean Language Public Lecture 2 was held online via the Zoom platform at 13.30 western Indonesian time. This public lecture is open to all UGM Korean Language and Culture, as well as mandatory for students taking Comprehensive Korean 2.
In the 2022/2023 academic year, the UGM Korean Language and Culture Program sent 7 students to South Korea to participate in the exchange student program. The university that the students are aiming for this time is Kyungpook National University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, and Soonchunhyang University.
